What is it that guides us?

How do we find our way to where we want to go?

Yesterday I alluded to the fact that we could “make a request to our maker” and be given instructions on how to achieve what it is that we desire.

What did I mean by instructions?

I also called it “guidance” further on in the piece and I think that’s a better term – one that most of us can relate to.

It could be considered your inner map, if you like. Intuition. Gut feeling. Special knowledge.

When you set out on a deliberate course of action, one that has a distinct purpose, the decision to set out is the important part of the starting process.

To your brain, your decision to start is like an on switch that lights the way forward for you on your journey.

That decision births a little workshop at the back of your brain that starts working on the best way to close the gap between where you are now and where you want to be in the future – your stated desire.

You are most likely completely unaware that this work is going on as you go about your daily activities, but the seed that you planted deep in your brain (your decision to pursue what it is that you want) is already sprouting.

Before I start sounding too silly and “secretesque” here … there is science behind this.

Your brain’s Reticular Activating System (RAS) is designed to filter out unnecessary information around it and look for more of what it thinks is important.

How does it decide what’s important?

By what you focus on.

This works both ways of course .. this video is a great lesson on how it works and why we need focus on the positive things in our lives.

Your decision to move towards your goal is a positive one that needs to be reinforced by your own thoughts, actions and beliefs. Watch the video to see how to do this.

Your guiding system is all down to you … The initial decision that you make can shape your future and build you a new life if you reinforce it with ongoing positive action and thoughts.

This is the hard part … but I think if we have an understanding of what is going on in the brain it can be easier.

At least we know what exactly we’re up against and can take action to deal with it. Better the enemy you know, as the saying goes!
